Costello Taglipietra Fall 2010: Femininity At Its Best

by Joseph Miceli-Magnone and Edward Garou on Feb.13, 2010, under Fashion Week Fall 2010

Joe: Of all the runway shows held on Friday, one stood out to us as the chicest. Jeffrey Costello and Robert Taglipietra presented their Fall 2010 look at Milk Studios in Chelsea. Visiting back stage before the show, we found the two adorable designers calmly giving interviews, but there was a definite energy in the air. After quick hellos and the wishing of luck, we exited to take our seats and passed by all the models, makeup artists and hair stylists (always fun to be backstage) quickly working to make this production perfect. The show started, and the two words that came to mind were “diaphanous” and “origami”. The draping on some of the pieces was exquisitely applied, making it look effortless. The other pieces were constructed with a precision that made origami look simple. All in all, a beautiful, feminine collection presented by two of the most masculine designers on the scene! Tres Chic!

Ed: I’d also like to add that many of the fabrics were dyed using AirDye, an environmentally friendly dying process that uses no water and produces no pollutants. So not only were the fashions amazing, but green as well! That’s doubly chic!

Keith Lissner Fall 2010 Presentation: A Banquet To Remember

by Joseph Miceli-Magnone and Edward Garou on Feb.12, 2010, under Fashion Week Fall 2010

Designer, Keith Lissner, presented his Fall 2010 collection with a nod to the gluttons of the fashion world. Having his elegant, statuesque models pose alongside a fully laid out banquet table laden with crystal, china, candelabras and champagne, one could not help but notice the striking clothing.  Constructed of rich fabrics resembling Renaissance tapestries, the total image brought to mind an old master’s painting. Truly a striking collection worthy of a Botticelli painting!

Fashion Knows No Climate: John Bartlett Kicks Off Fall 2010 Fashon Week

by Joseph Miceli-Magnone and Edward Garou on Feb.12, 2010, under Fashion Week Fall 2010

Fall 2010 Fashion Week opened up with the worst blizzard to date this year, but that didn’t stop editors, fashionistas,  celebrities and socialistas from trudging through a nor’easter to see the relaunching of John Bartlett’s woman’s line. The runway show was held at Broad & Hudson in Tribeca on Wednesday the 10th, and the hair and makeup were gorgeously done by Shiseido. As usual, John delivered an impeccable collection of elegant, refined menswear and an equally refined line of beautifully tailored woman’s clothing. Bringing to mind famous actresses such as Diane Keaton as Annie Hall and Marlene Dietrich, John recreated his signature structured look to accommodate his loyal female following! As one observer stated so candidly, “There is nothing sexier than a woman in a tie!” All the models wore Frye boots, which were stunning and are definitely on our shopping list this year! Notables seated front row were Simon Doonan, Derek Warburton, Alex McCord and Simon VanKepen along with editors from Vogue, Details, Vanity Fair, GQ and the New York Times. Not even a blizzard could have kept the 200 plus invitees from comming out and supporting this icon of American fashion! Bravo!!

Housing Works: Fashion for Action 2009

by Eddie Garou on Nov.22, 2009, under Events

Housing Works recently had its ultra-fabulous Fashion for Action gala, co-chaired by Derek Lam, which Joseph and I, of course, attended! The VIP list was extensive, and included John Bartlett, John Esty, Derek Warburton, Simon Van Kempen, Richie Rich, Marisol Deluna, Loris Diran, Jeffrey Costello, Robert Tagliapietra, Jack Mackenroth and Peyman Umay.

The event was catered by The Works Catering, and the buffet they provided was superb! But the shopping, of course, was the best of all!

Designer treasures from Burberry to John Varvatos filled the aisles at supremely deep discounts. Shopping was intense, to say the least! The special silent auction items met with a lot of intense bidding. A few of the items up for auction were a Rod Keenan custom hat design experience, a Kara Ross ultra-luxe python clutch, an Arlene Carenio necklace, and a Christian Dior handbag.

We’re looking forward to next year’s Fashion for Action, and the upcoming Design on a Dime in 2010!

Second time around for “Second Time Around”

by Eddie Garou on Nov.09, 2009, under Events, People, Places

Last week, Joseph and I had the opportunity to attend the opening for the second Second Time Around in New York at its new Upper East Side location. The event was hosted by Alex McCord of the Real Housewives of New York, and was attended by Derek Warburton of DerekLovesShopping.com, as well as the other Housewives of New York.

The event itself was marvelous, and we were pleased to see the very chic VOGA Wines sponsoring the event. (I myself am a fan of their sparkling pinot grigio.) We were impressed by the designer fashions as well as the great bargains to be had, and highly recommend that you pay a visit to Second Time Around!

This past weekend, Edward Garou and I attended Brooklyn Fashion Weekend, held in Fort Greene at the Irondale Center. Divided into three days, the event gave a platform for up and comming Brooklyn, international and NYC designers to showcase their Spring 2010 collections. The highlight of the weekend was the Loris Diran collection, which was shown on Sunday night. Beautifully tailored clothing with flowing chiffon and beautiful bright yellow satin creations! Three of his most alluring models were none other then Alex McCord, Ramona Singer and Kelly Bensimone, stars of the Bravo Reality show “The Real Housewives of New York”. In attendance was Simon Van Kempen and Jill Zarin, also from RHWNY. It was an amazing evening, MCed by none other then Derek Warburton, the larger than life fashinista from DerekLovesShopping.com! Being on the Board for the event, Alex, Simon and Derek were responsible for the magical evening. A Housing Works Auction and Our First Video!

by Eddie Garou on Oct.08, 2009, under Events

Yesterday, we had an opportunity to attend a live auction of Early American prints at Housing Works. It was pretty exciting, and a number of items quickly went for well over $1000! Here are a couple highlights of the bidding.

You wouldn’t normally think of a thrift store as a place to find fine art, but then again, Housing Works Thrift Stores aren’t your ordinary thrift stores!

The auctioneer for the event was Kathleen Guzman, and special thanks go to Daile Kaplan, Nicholas Lowry of Swann Galleries, Eric Silver of Lillian Nassau, Joyce Jonas, and the entire staff of the 23rd street store for making this event a success! Thanks to everyone’s work, Housing Works raised about $40,000!

This is our very first venture into video for Chic Unique New York, and we look forward to bringing you even more video of upcoming events, fascinating people, and everything else that’s chic in New York!
