Last week, we had an opportunity to attend Loris Diran’s fashion presentation at the Pierre hotel. It was a gorgeous event featuring fashions that had both warmth and elegance!
This week, Joseph and I attended a wonderful spa event benefitting GLAAD at Senses NY, a luxury salon known for doing hair for the MTV music awards. It’s also my personal favorite place to go pamper myself!
In attendance were Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen, from the Real Housewives of New York, and lifestyle guru and humanitarian Derek Warburton of Derek Loves Shopping. Also in attendance was Senses NY’s couture tattoo artist, Friday Jones. That’s right! A deluxe spa featuring a deluxe tattoo artist! This is as New York as New York chic gets!
It was an evening of relaxation and pampering as attendees enjoyed hair care and manicures by Senses NY’s expert staff, and even massage by expert massage therapist Timothy Cisario.
I want to take a moment to thank Senses NY co-owners Bruce Conroy and Antonio Rosa, and Senses NY manager James Grivas for an amazing, chic and spa-taneous night!
We recently attended yet another amazing event for Housing Works. This time, instead of fashion and design, it was all about gourmet chic! The Works Catering, which is part of Housing Works and whose profits go to support Housing Works, put the event together with some major culinary talent:
The event was hosted by the lovely Gail Simmons, and featured Brad Farmerie, executive chef of PUBLIC, The Monday Room, Double Crown and Madam Geneva, Michael Anthony, executive chef of Gramercy Tavern, Elizabeth Karmel, executive chef of Hill Country Barbecue, and Alexandra Guarnaschelli, executive chef of Butter Restaurant.
Michael Anthony created wonderful shrimp and ramp skewers that had a lot of great flavor and color, Brad Farmerie made outrageously delicious mini venison burgers on miso buns with tomato chili jam, Alexandra Guarnaschelli made tasty and flavorful pizzas with ricotta, charred ramps and aged balsamic, and Elizabeth Karmel created amazingly tender brisket with cucumber onion salad and delicious bourbon pecan tartlettes!
I have to say, I really hope that Housing Works has more events like this! Unfortunately, I’m going to have to buy more clothes at Fashion for Action after all the food I ate at this event!
Housing Works’ premier interior design event, Design on a Dime, was an amazing event filled with fantastic interior design talent and fabulous people. Premiered there were Jacqueline Smith, Ty Pennigton, and our good friend Derek Warburton!
There was so much talent there, and so many fabulous rooms, that I can’t list each and every one of them here (although you can check them all out at the Flickr link below), but we do want to thank our friends (in no particular order) Nathan Thomas, Bob Richter, Luis Caicedo and Gabriel de la Portilla for participating and creating rooms that made us want to max out our credit cards!
And let us not forget our particularly talented artist friends who donated artwork that really raised the bar of quality for our event (again, in no particular order): Mike Ruiz, Brian Farrell, Arlene Carenio, Toni-Lee Sangastiano, Brian Cyr and Susan Olmetti.
How amazing were the rooms and how fabulous was the art? Well, by the end of the weekend, the event had raised about $700,000!
As Derek would say, “Take THAT! HiiiiiYAHHHH!”
Next to Housing Works, one of our other favorite charities is “The Bottomless Closet”, which is dedicated to helping women get into the workforce.
We had an opportunity to attend another Bottomless Closet event with our friend Derek Warburton, and had a chance to help women build their self-image and their confidence so that they could get back out into the working world!
We recently attended an event at Bergdorf Goodman for Carlos Falchi’s special edition henna design inspired bags!
There were tons of fabulous people there, including Carlos Falchi himself, Derek Warburton, Kate Falchi, Loris Diran, Brenda Vaccaro and Ramona Singer.
We’ve been a little behind here at Chic Unique with all the amazing events we’ve been attending, so we’re playing a little catch-up!
One very exciting event we’ve been at is the launch party for “Little Kids, Big City”, by Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen of the Real Housewives of New York.
Described as a book about parenting “from the trenches”, Alex and Simon talk about the joys and struggles of raising kids in the great metropolis of New York.
What’s really fantastic about this book is that you don’t have to be a parent to enjoy it! If you ever had a parent or lived in a city like New York, then you’re going to love this book.
Definitely highly recommended!
