A Housing Works Auction and Our First Video!

Yesterday, we had an opportunity to attend a live auction of Early American prints at Housing Works. It was pretty exciting, and a number of items quickly went for well over $1000! Here are a couple highlights of the bidding.

You wouldn’t normally think of a thrift store as a place to find fine art, but then again, Housing Works Thrift Stores aren’t your ordinary thrift stores!

The auctioneer for the event was Kathleen Guzman, and special thanks go to Daile Kaplan, Nicholas Lowry of Swann Galleries, Eric Silver of Lillian Nassau, Joyce Jonas, and the entire staff of the 23rd street store for making this event a success! Thanks to everyone’s work, Housing Works raised about $40,000!

This is our very first venture into video for Chic Unique New York, and we look forward to bringing you even more video of upcoming events, fascinating people, and everything else that’s chic in New York!

Kara Ross’ Latest Collection

We recently had the opportunity to view Kara Ross‘ latest collection of accessories, jewelry, purses and clutches. It was, as always, a delightful experience! What I particularly love about her designs are the rich textures that she uses. Every piece seems to have an organic lovliness about it!

You can see more pictures by clicking here, but below are some of our favorites from the collection!

Fashion’s Night Out: C’est Magnifique!!!

Ed Joe Tim Cropped Resized Final DSC_0025

What would Fashion’s Night Out be without the venerable Project Runway guru Tim Gunn? Having been invited by John Bartlett to his store’s dual celebration of FNO and the second anniversary of its opening, Edward and I were able to sip cocktails with Mr Gunn, Mr. Bartlett and a host of other fashionistas and industry people. All of us out in order to celebrate fashion’s biggest charity event of the year with its signature tee shirt sales benefiting the national September 11th Memorial Fund. A quick jaunt to Cynthia Rowley and Diane Von Furstenberg ended our fashionable evening. A truly memorable outing!

Claiborne by John Bartlett Spring 2010: A Symphony of Color And Comfort

DSC01445

What better way to start off New York’s Fashion Week than in the hallowed halls of the Liz Claiborne fashion empire in the heart of Time Square. Having been invited by John Bartlett to view his Claiborne by John Bartlett Spring 2010 collection, I was able to experience an explosion of color that is the new signature of the Claiborne menswear line. Not afraid to take chances, Mr. Bartlett infused his classic sensabilities with colors such as petunia purple, mandarine orange, bright foliage green and stunning Bahama blue. Classic tailoring is par for the course, as in all of Mr. Bartlett’s designs, and comfort rings true throughout the entire collection. Soft fabrics and a stunning navy inspired look brings to mind the casual look of a bygone era of deconstructed style and elegance. Truly not the Claiborne of yester year, but an exceptional composition of style, class and elegance. Bravo John Bartlett!
