Michael Bastian Fall 2010: Hot DAMN!

by Joseph Miceli-Magnone and Edward Garou on Feb.16, 2010, under Fashion Week Fall 2010

Joe: Definitely one of our favorite shows this season, Michael Bastian presented his Fall 2010 collection to a packed house. Seated front row was none other then John Malkovich! The collection immediately evoked the term “Lumber Jack Chic”. Mixing plaid shirts with grey and black pants and jackets where every so often, a bright splash of pink would appear. An awesome collection worthy of investigating further…and purchasing!  Can’t wait to shop!!

Ed: Michael Bastian’s line definitely emphasizes the masculine, a trend that I’ve been seeing a lot of lately and have been very happy with. Suits and vests in heavier fabrics of earthtone hues and plaid shirts with flourishes that emphasize the shoulders stood out in his collection. Everything radiated a kind of masculine strength and repose mixed with calm elegance.

General Idea Fall 2010 Collection

by Joseph Miceli-Magnone and Edward Garou on Feb.16, 2010, under Fashion Week Fall 2010

Joe: With an interesting mix of motorcycle glitz and chic vagabond, designer Bumsuk Choi presented his Fall 2010 collection this past Monday. Beautifully tailored menswear with a soft edge would be a fitting description. Motorcycle jackets is silver and gold were presented along side spider web thin sweaters. Truly New York chic!

Ed: In particular, I loved the metallic motorcycle jacket, which I would love to get my hands on! The clothes definitely had a very urban edge, with city pavement greys, asphalt blacks, stop sign reds and LED blues marked with strong and decisive lines and borders. Yet all of the clothing seemed to be very wearable and very comfortable. These were definitely fashions for New York.

by Joseph Miceli-Magnone and Edward Garou on Feb.16, 2010, under Fashion Week Fall 2010

Diego Binetti, known for his beautiful women’s clothing, presented his Fall 2010 collection this past Sunday. Ed and I attended with our friends from “The Real Housewives of New York”, Alex McCord and Simon Van Kempen, and noted Style Guru, Derek Warburton. Alex, who was the guest of honor at the runway show, wore one of Mr. Binetti’s fabulous creations and looked stunning as usual. The collection featured soft textures and bright colors. Definitely suitable for any Park Avenue socialite. Truly elegant!

Manuel De La Cruz Fall 2010 Apocalyptic Runway Show

by Joseph Miceli-Magnone and Edward Garou on Feb.15, 2010, under Fashion Week Fall 2010

Manuel De La Cruz presented his Fall 2010 collection this year to a packed audience. Speaking to the designer backstage before the show, we discovered that his collection was influenced by the calendar and culture of the Mayan civilization, with a flourish and nod to his own Guatemalan culture. Some of the fabrics used in the show were directly imported from Guatamala, and radiated bright colors. The designs themselves ranged from the futuristic and tribal to cocktail chic. One piece that stood out in particular was a tuxedo jacket in red with black trimming (sooo mine)! Overall, Mr. De La Cruz put on a beautiful show with elegant clothing! Sooo chic!

Andrew Buckler Fall 2010: Deconstructidly Constructed

by Joseph Miceli-Magnone and Edward Garou on Feb.13, 2010, under Fashion Week Fall 2010

Andrew Buckler presented his Fall 2010 men’s collection this past Friday. Beautifully tailored clothing with a soft edge of deconstructed beauty is the description that automatically came to mind. The clothing ranged from suits to sportswear that any chic New Yorker would be sure to wear, whether it be for a casual day out, or a hard core fashionista/socialista party during the psychotic time know as Fashion Week! Andrew Buckler is truly New York Chic!

Costello Taglipietra Fall 2010: Femininity At Its Best

by Joseph Miceli-Magnone and Edward Garou on Feb.13, 2010, under Fashion Week Fall 2010

Joe: Of all the runway shows held on Friday, one stood out to us as the chicest. Jeffrey Costello and Robert Taglipietra presented their Fall 2010 look at Milk Studios in Chelsea. Visiting back stage before the show, we found the two adorable designers calmly giving interviews, but there was a definite energy in the air. After quick hellos and the wishing of luck, we exited to take our seats and passed by all the models, makeup artists and hair stylists (always fun to be backstage) quickly working to make this production perfect. The show started, and the two words that came to mind were “diaphanous” and “origami”. The draping on some of the pieces was exquisitely applied, making it look effortless. The other pieces were constructed with a precision that made origami look simple. All in all, a beautiful, feminine collection presented by two of the most masculine designers on the scene! Tres Chic!

Ed: I’d also like to add that many of the fabrics were dyed using AirDye, an environmentally friendly dying process that uses no water and produces no pollutants. So not only were the fashions amazing, but green as well! That’s doubly chic!

Keith Lissner Fall 2010 Presentation: A Banquet To Remember

by Joseph Miceli-Magnone and Edward Garou on Feb.12, 2010, under Fashion Week Fall 2010

Designer, Keith Lissner, presented his Fall 2010 collection with a nod to the gluttons of the fashion world. Having his elegant, statuesque models pose alongside a fully laid out banquet table laden with crystal, china, candelabras and champagne, one could not help but notice the striking clothing.  Constructed of rich fabrics resembling Renaissance tapestries, the total image brought to mind an old master’s painting. Truly a striking collection worthy of a Botticelli painting!

Fashion Knows No Climate: John Bartlett Kicks Off Fall 2010 Fashon Week

by Joseph Miceli-Magnone and Edward Garou on Feb.12, 2010, under Fashion Week Fall 2010

Fall 2010 Fashion Week opened up with the worst blizzard to date this year, but that didn’t stop editors, fashionistas,  celebrities and socialistas from trudging through a nor’easter to see the relaunching of John Bartlett’s woman’s line. The runway show was held at Broad & Hudson in Tribeca on Wednesday the 10th, and the hair and makeup were gorgeously done by Shiseido. As usual, John delivered an impeccable collection of elegant, refined menswear and an equally refined line of beautifully tailored woman’s clothing. Bringing to mind famous actresses such as Diane Keaton as Annie Hall and Marlene Dietrich, John recreated his signature structured look to accommodate his loyal female following! As one observer stated so candidly, “There is nothing sexier than a woman in a tie!” All the models wore Frye boots, which were stunning and are definitely on our shopping list this year! Notables seated front row were Simon Doonan, Derek Warburton, Alex McCord and Simon VanKepen along with editors from Vogue, Details, Vanity Fair, GQ and the New York Times. Not even a blizzard could have kept the 200 plus invitees from comming out and supporting this icon of American fashion! Bravo!!
