Housing Works: Fashion for Action 2009
by Eddie Garou on Nov.22, 2009, under Events
Housing Works recently had its ultra-fabulous Fashion for Action gala, co-chaired by Derek Lam, which Joseph and I, of course, attended! The VIP list was extensive, and included John Bartlett, John Esty, Derek Warburton, Simon Van Kempen, Richie Rich, Marisol Deluna, Loris Diran, Jeffrey Costello, Robert Tagliapietra, Jack Mackenroth and Peyman Umay.
The event was catered by The Works Catering, and the buffet they provided was superb! But the shopping, of course, was the best of all!
Designer treasures from Burberry to John Varvatos filled the aisles at supremely deep discounts. Shopping was intense, to say the least! The special silent auction items met with a lot of intense bidding. A few of the items up for auction were a Rod Keenan custom hat design experience, a Kara Ross ultra-luxe python clutch, an Arlene Carenio necklace, and a Christian Dior handbag.
We’re looking forward to next year’s Fashion for Action, and the upcoming Design on a Dime in 2010!

Second time around for “Second Time Around”
by Eddie Garou on Nov.09, 2009, under Events, People, Places
Last week, Joseph and I had the opportunity to attend the opening for the second Second Time Around in New York at its new Upper East Side location. The event was hosted by Alex McCord of the Real Housewives of New York, and was attended by Derek Warburton of DerekLovesShopping.com, as well as the other Housewives of New York.
The event itself was marvelous, and we were pleased to see the very chic VOGA Wines sponsoring the event. (I myself am a fan of their sparkling pinot grigio.) We were impressed by the designer fashions as well as the great bargains to be had, and highly recommend that you pay a visit to Second Time Around!
Loris Diran 2010 Spring Collection..Brooklyn Fashion Weekend’s Pièce De Résistance
by Joseph Miceli-Magnone and Edward Garou on Oct.20, 2009, under Events
This past weekend, Edward Garou and I attended Brooklyn Fashion Weekend, held in Fort Greene at the Irondale Center. Divided into three days, the event gave a platform for up and comming Brooklyn, international and NYC designers to showcase their Spring 2010 collections. The highlight of the weekend was the Loris Diran collection, which was shown on Sunday night. Beautifully tailored clothing with flowing chiffon and beautiful bright yellow satin creations! It was truly a master collection of elegance! Three of his most alluring models were none other then Alex McCord, Ramona Singer and Kelly Bensimone, stars of the Bravo Reality show “The Real Housewives of New York”. In attendance was Simon Van Kempen and Jill Zarin, also from RHWNY. It was an amazing evening, MCed by none other then Derek Warburton, the larger than life fashinista from DerekLovesShopping.com! Being on the Board for the event, Alex, Simon and Derek were responsible for the magical evening. We’re really looking forward to attending this comming spring for the Fall 2010 collection previews. A Housing Works Auction and Our First Video!
by Eddie Garou on Oct.08, 2009, under Events
Yesterday, we had an opportunity to attend a live auction of Early American prints at Housing Works. It was pretty exciting, and a number of items quickly went for well over $1000! Here are a couple highlights of the bidding.
You wouldn’t normally think of a thrift store as a place to find fine art, but then again, Housing Works Thrift Stores aren’t your ordinary thrift stores!
The auctioneer for the event was Kathleen Guzman, and special thanks go to Daile Kaplan, Nicholas Lowry of Swann Galleries, Eric Silver of Lillian Nassau, Joyce Jonas, and the entire staff of the 23rd street store for making this event a success! Thanks to everyone’s work, Housing Works raised about $40,000!
This is our very first venture into video for Chic Unique New York, and we look forward to bringing you even more video of upcoming events, fascinating people, and everything else that’s chic in New York!

Kara Ross’ Latest Collection
by Eddie Garou on Oct.07, 2009, under People, Things
We recently had the opportunity to view Kara Ross‘ latest collection of accessories, jewelry, purses and clutches. It was, as always, a delightful experience! What I particularly love about her designs are the rich textures that she uses. Every piece seems to have an organic lovliness about it!
You can see more pictures by clicking here, but below are some of our favorites from the collection!
Fashion’s Night Out: C’est Magnifique!!!
by Joseph Miceli-Magnone and Edward Garou on Sep.14, 2009, under Events
What would Fashion’s Night Out be without the venerable Project Runway guru Tim Gunn? Having been invited by John Bartlett to his store’s dual celebration of FNO and the second anniversary of its opening, Edward and I were able to sip cocktails with Mr Gunn, Mr. Bartlett and a host of other fashionistas and industry people. All of us out in order to celebrate fashion’s biggest charity event of the year with its signature tee shirt sales benefiting the national September 11th Memorial Fund. A quick jaunt to Cynthia Rowley and Diane Von Furstenberg ended our fashionable evening. A truly memorable outing!
Claiborne by John Bartlett Spring 2010: A Symphony of Color And Comfort
by Joseph Miceli-Magnone on Sep.11, 2009, under Events, People
What better way to start off New York’s Fashion Week than in the hallowed halls of the Liz Claiborne fashion empire in the heart of Time Square. Having been invited by John Bartlett to view his Claiborne by John Bartlett Spring 2010 collection, I was able to experience an explosion of color that is the new signature of the Claiborne menswear line. Not afraid to take chances, Mr. Bartlett infused his classic sensabilities with colors such as petunia purple, mandarine orange, bright foliage green and stunning Bahama blue. Classic tailoring is par for the course, as in all of Mr. Bartlett’s designs, and comfort rings true throughout the entire collection. Soft fabrics and a stunning navy inspired look brings to mind the casual look of a bygone era of deconstructed style and elegance. Truly not the Claiborne of yester year, but an exceptional composition of style, class and elegance. Bravo John Bartlett!
